Rome (Georgia) Regrets Losing Dr. Jones

New Jersey, 1907

An extract from the Tribune of Rome, Ga., shows in what high esteem the people of that place hold the Rev. C. O. Jones, who has been called to the pastorate of the First M. E. Church, this city. The article refers to Dr. Jones's farewell service last Sunday, and is as follows:

"One of the most affecting services ever seen in Rome took place Sunday morning at the First Methodist Church, when Dr. Charles O. Jones bade the members farewell after laboring for a year as their pastor.

"His theme was 'Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness,' and the eloquent speaker was at his best. His words deeply moved his hearers, and when the closing song, 'God Be with You Till We Meet Again,' was sung there was scarcely a dry eye in the house. Dr. Jones and his family leave for his new field, Trenton, N. J., tomorrow, and the best wishes of all Methodists and all Romans go with him.

"At the farewell service there was not a vacant seat in the house and many members of other denominations were present."
