Alton, Illinois — The Alton ministerial alliance yesterday protested to the city council against the holding of a street fair in the city, and denounced such exhibitions as immoral in their tendency and opposed to the legitimate interests of the city according to the effects of former street fairs held in Alton.
The Roman Catholic clergy have united in condemning the proposed fair and it is probable that none will be held. The clergymen also decided to begin a campaign in the interests of improving public morals in Alton, and will hold several mass meetings during the summer.
