C. H. Boyle, of Brooklyn, has been engaged as organist at the Congregational church.
The Rev. Mr. Bryan, rector of the Church of the Epiphany, will preach a sermon to Americus hook and ladder company on Sunday, the 20th inst.
A special meeting of the Brooklyn presbytery was held Thursday evening to receive and act upon a request for the dissolution of the relation between the Rev. F. W. Cutler and the Woodhaven First church. Seven ministers were present. The Rev. Mr. Cutler stated that during the eight years he has been at Woodhaven he has raised a $20,000 church and increased his congregation from 12 to 250. His physician says he needs a rest for at least a year and he intends to accept the advice. After John McKnight and Luke Eldert of the congregation had spoken of the affection that exists between people and pastor, the Presbytery granted the request. The Rev. I. D. Wells conducted the services last Sunday, and the Rev. J. D. Pritchard will fill the pulpit until a regular pastor is secured.
